The NJTA was formed in 1985 to assume the operations of several struggling Rail and Subway companies left in the wake of Conrail and Penn Central. Bus Operations were started in 1986 to take over several IBOAs that were shutting down service. Service from 1980 to 1985 was provided by NJ Transit.
